About Jason Paul Barker
My life has been shaped by two primary forces, a sociological one and an emotional one. The former force is rather predictable. It is the same force that drove so many of my classmates away from our childhood home in the rust belt, Delaware County, Indiana, to vibrant cities full of opportunities. My prosperous city of choice was Denver, where I spent four years and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.
Just three months after graduating from the University of Denver, the second driving force in my life, the emotional one, played its role. That force was love. Love, as it so happened, drove me further from my roots, to Madrid, Spain, where I’ve resided since 1998.
While I've spent the bulk of my years here in Spain dedicated to marketing with stints as a journalist, English teacher & translator, I've also carved out time to devote to my lifelong passion for literature. In 2013, I penned my first short story collection, Guilt Trips. Then, in 2016, I released my debut novel, Beneath Madrid, a literary psychological thriller firmly rooted in my adopted hometown.
